Self-Exclusion
Self-exclusion is a tool that lets you voluntarily ban yourself from gambling at a specific casino or across an entire market for a set period. Once activated, the casino closes your account, removes you from marketing communications, and prevents you from opening a new account during the exclusion period.
Individual casino self-exclusion only blocks you from that one site, which limits its effectiveness. National schemes are more powerful. In the UK, GamStop blocks you from all UKGC-licensed gambling sites simultaneously. In Sweden, Spelpaus does the same. These multi-operator systems make it genuinely difficult to circumvent the exclusion by simply switching to another casino.
Self-exclusion periods are typically 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years. Once the period ends, some schemes auto-reactivate your ability to gamble while others require you to actively request reactivation. If you're struggling with your gambling, use the national scheme (if available), not just the individual casino option. It's more effective and harder to undo during a weak moment.
