Cascading Reels

Cascading reels (sometimes called tumbles, avalanches, or rolling reels depending on the provider) replace traditional spinning. After a winning combination lands, those winning symbols disappear and new symbols fall in from above. If the new arrangement creates another win, the cycle repeats.

This means a single spin can produce multiple consecutive wins. Combined with increasing multipliers, which is common during bonus rounds, cascading reels can generate payouts that fixed-reel slots simply can't match. Gonzo's Quest was one of the first slots to use this mechanic and it's still a solid reference point.

The important thing to understand: cascading reels don't change the RTP. The base game math already accounts for the chain reactions. But they do change the win distribution. You get fewer isolated small wins and more clustered sequences where either nothing happens or multiple things happen at once.
